Prelocate main-insulation and sheath faults on long cable systems using accurate 4-wire measurement.
Prelocate faults accurately across very long cable systems
Bifröst applies a 20 kV DC four-wire voltage drop measurement with one or two auxiliary wires. The result is independent of test-lead contact resistance and auxiliary-wire resistance, while cable segmentation and temperature input help represent complex links. Specified accuracy is better than 1% of total cable length.
Manage the stored energy of long cables within the unit
The integrated discharge and earthing unit handles 150 kJ, equivalent to 750 µF charged to 20 kV DC, with a specified discharge time constant below one second. Teams can discharge the connected cable after measurement without adding a separate high-capacitance discharge unit to the field setup.
Work through sheath testing, prelocation and pinpointing
Bifröst supports DC sheath testing, bridge prelocation and pulsed-DC pinpointing with the voltage gradient method. High-frequency burning up to 850 mA is available when a difficult fault needs conversion before measurement, giving the team one field system for the main stages of sheath fault location.
